Random Encounters : Shaundakul's Garden

By Stan!

As one travels through the world, one commonly sees shrines to Shaundakul along even the most remote lanes and byways. As the god of travel and caravans, it is just as important to thank Shaundakul for dirt paths as it is to pay homage to the great high roads and caravan trails. Every avenue is a gift from the Rider of the Winds.

But Shaundakul is also the god of exploration, and not all of his gifts are found easily. In fact, his favorite spots remain unmarked on any map, and only those who wander the wild places of the world can find them. For the faithful, Shaundakul has left some markers to point the way, but they are not seen easily and the trip is not for the faint of heart.

If you look very carefully and stay on the road ahead, you may eventually find yourself in Shaundakul's Garden. But beware -- every trip has a price.

The Milestone and the Rod of Leagues

Take a look at two wondrous items favored by the god of travel. Individually they are powerful magic items, but together they can point the way to Shaundakul's Garden.

The Eternal Pilgrimage

Worshipers of Shaundakul spend years walking the highways and byways of the world on a pilgrimage that will never end. Their goal is not a place or to retrace a specific path -- what is important to them is the journey.

Guardian of the Road

The most dedicated of the Gray Pilgrims are blessed with extraordinary abilities by Shaundakul. This prestige class is suitable for PCs and NPCs who believe that the journey is more important than the destination.

Journey's End

When the god of distance creates a hidden garden, it is more hidden than most. This oasis is among Shaundakul's favorite spots in the world.

Shaundakul's Veil

All travelers are welcome in Shaundakul's Garden, but getting there cannot be an easy task. The Rider of the Winds desires his secret garden to always be a place of mystery and wonder, even to those who have visited it before.
